The Often Ignored Anchor Text

What is anchor text? It’s the words on a web page that you click on that links to another page. An example would be Internet Strategies For Real Estate. Internet Strategies For Real Estate is the anchor text and when clicked on takes you to JackMize.com.
Anchor text accomplishes two things. It gives your readers information about the page they are about to visit. More importantly it tells search engines what the page is about when they are crawling the internet and indexing sites to present relevant results back to searchers.
Anchor text is very important but often forgotten when building back links to your web pages. Using thought out keywords as your anchor text when linking to pages on your web site lets search engines know that your website and page is relevant to the topic in which you are trying to rank well.
One of the biggest offenses is the Click Here anchor text. This a waste of back linking opportunities. So when you have the chance to put a link to your website in a blog post, discussion board signature or article resource box think carefully about the text you choose to make your link.
Most point and click sites, forums, etc… have user friendly facilities to link. Just choose the phrase you want to make clickable and link it to your web page. If you have to use html to add your link you can use the following as a guide.
<a href=”http://yourdomain.com/page.html”>your keywords here</a>
Make sure you take every chance you get to post a link to your site and make sure the link is relevant. Whatever you do don’t link your site to CLICK HERE!
